Godot
Godot Open RPG
Godot Open RPG is GDQuest’s course demo: a 2D party, turn-based combat, inventory, and talk. It is not an official engine sample, but it is the usual open RPG to open after the tiny 2D role-playing demo in the Godot pack.

- Engine
- Godot Engine
- Language
- GDScript
- Genre
- RPG
- License
- MIT
Who it is for
- People who finished the official 2D RPG demo
- Designers who want a readable combat + inventory loop
- Intermediate GDScript, not a first Godot file
What you can learn
- Turn-based battle flow in GDScript
- Inventory and dialogue as separate systems
- How a course demo structures menus and combat
Clone and run
- Install Godot 4 matching the repo’s stated version.
- Clone gdquest-demos/godot-open-rpg.
- Import and Play. If Godot asks to convert, follow the README — this demo tracks a specific minor version.
Treat it as a teaching project. Systems are named for reading, not for a live-service MMO. Copy combat or inventory, do not expect networking.
Public repositories. The short descriptions are written for this site.
